Wow, tonight was the first late night hang out I've had in...a very long time. It was refreshing, actually.
George, Chris (Gould) and I all sat around Chris's apartment and played music until 2 in the morning. Janet was there as well, but after a point she zonked out, so she was a non-factor. :)
I think George, Chris, and I (and perhaps Janet as well) are going to create my second "band" that I am in. Whereas my project with Jared will focus more on the heavy rock, the project with Chris and George will have more of a blues, classic rock, and maybe some flamenco feel to it. Should be an interesting experience. Being the only drummer in a couple of circles of friends means lots of musical work, if I could only get my drums back.
Courtney seems less and less thrilled with my existance every passing day. Maybe this is just my skewed observation. I dunno. Who cares? Why did I even just write that. Fsck 'er.
Cookout tomorrow. YOU'D BETTER BE THERE! Sarah's already told me she's abandoning me in my time of need for some silly wedding or something. Bah! She should know what's more important! Maybe she already does.
DJ tests. Now THAT was an interesting experience. Having timid, unassuming pre-frosh come into a room with me, alone, nervous as all get out.
That so sounds like the set up for a porn, doesn't it?
But alas, my morals prevent me from getting play. We had about 11 to 15 take evaluation forms (essentially, applications) and I was only able to test 6. I hope I'm not being too lenient on there, because I didn't grade anyone below a C. This tells me that I need another person to do testing besides myself. Hopefully we'll have that by next COMPASS orientation.
We're going to be doing testing for existing students soon too. Can't announce a date here just yet, though we have it set. Deal I made with people on the Charger Radio Mailing List that they'd get first crack at the tryout dates. They will be by reservation, though.
Ok, back to the grindstone...that's not turning at all today. |

Linda meets up with Jill as she is picking her
car up from the mechanic.
Linda asks, "Everything ok with your car now?"
Jill replies, "Yes, thank goodness. I was
worried that my mechanic might try to rip me
off, so I was relieved when he told me all I
needed was blinker fluid."
Well, I finally decided to see if I could handle the worst of humanity. No, I didn't enlist in the police academy. I put in my application to be an umpire with the Madison Baseball Association. I'm looking to umpire their Rookie or Minor league. The biggest difference between the two is that Rookie league uses a 45 MPH pitching machine, and Minor league is player-pitch.
It's not the kids I fear. Nor the coaches.
It's the parents.
I'm beginning to wonder if I should go get a pistol permit...
One of the things asked on the application was "What three things, in your opinion, is an umpire?" My answers were as follows:
A fair and impartial judge of the game.
An instructor to teach the fundamentals of the game to the players.
A protector to insure that the players can participate in a friendly and safe environment.
May sound cheesy, but I stand by that.
And if I make it, I encourage you, my friends, to come to games and heckle me. That way I can have you removed and not feel too bad about it (I promise to buy you a beer if you let me).

I overheard a friend telling his pal, "I
can't break my wife of the habit of
staying up until 5 in the morning."
"What is she doing?", the pal asks.
"Waiting for me to get home."
I don't know, I just keep forgetting about this page until I read Geof's or Jeff's. So here I am, at work, posting. Simply because work is the only time that I get to do this. For example, my weekend consists of the following:
Friday (post-work)
Spend too much time in Wal-Mart buying groceries.
Go out with Chris and Sarah for food and ice cream.
Go to bed.
Saturday
8:00 AM Wake up, do laundry and general cleaning for guests of a "cookout."
10:45 AM Guests arrive. All two of them.
11:15 AM Convince guests that they want to go to the Vipers game that night, head out to buy tickets.
11:30 AM Find out VBC box office doesn't open until 12.
11:35 AM Kidnap Chris and do lunch at Subway.
12:30 PM Complete lunch, drop Chris off.
12:35 PM Purchase Vipers tickets
12:40 PM Stop at Tourist Information Center, as she (yes, the ubiquitous "she" was one of the "guests") wanted to check it out. I pick up a couple of event calendars for Chris, who was complaining Friday about a lack of things to do.
1:00 PM Go to Huntsville Historic Train Depot, because we had nothing better to do. Walk around, hang out.
2:15 PM Drop her off at her car so she can head for work. She has to be the 10 foot Space Center mascot. Funny, since she's barely 5'6".
2:25 PM Return home, watch Heaven Help Us (good movie) with Josh. Ande joins.
4:00 PM Josh leaves, Ande and I throw football out in the cul-de-sac.
4:45 PM Back inside...continue with laundry and cleaning.
6:00 PM To Mollie Teal's for pre-game revellry and drinks. A spot of food as well.
7:30 PM Football game. Vipers lose to Quad City.
10:30 PM Back to the house for drinks and Star Wars Episode 4.
2:00 AM Turn in.
Sunday
9:00 AM Wake up. Shower. Shave. Clothe.
9:45 AM She shows up at the door. Go to church with her, Chris, and Sarah.
11:30 AM Return home and cook brunch.
1:00 PM Sit on the couch to watch Arena Football on tv.
1:05 PM Pass out on couch.
1:30 PM Wake up and retire upstairs.
3:30 PM Wake up to Jeff on the phone. Realize I have a pool party to go to.
4:00 PM Party in Jeff's pool (perhaps his pants too, not too sure).
6:00 PM Leave party and head to football practice.
6:45 PM Start football practice.
8:30 PM Practice ends, retire to mi casa for drinks, pizza, and Star Wars Episode 5.
11:30 PM Sleep.
So that's why I don't post much except the slow times at work. Sorry about that. |

Here's a fun practice drill for you: See how many newspaper articles you can make into race bias stories. It's fun! Some PCers are so good they can make the weather report look like a KKK pamphlet!
...but I'm gonna do it anyway.
Actually, I started this blog about an hour ago, and got side tracked checking out nuclear weapons officers in the United States Army.
I get randomly interested in military stuff. Pretty cool stuff.
Another random observation: The last two normal tracks (non-bonus) on DMX's The Great Depression album are surprising and very cool. If you can stand rap at all, I strongly suggest you check them out. Especially A Minute For Your Son. Great song.
I started this at 9:45. It's now 11:39.
I'm going to bed now.
E-mail me. About something.

After you, my love, my only prize
Would be a bullet between my eyes
You know that feeling you get when you really want things to work out a certain way, and it starts to look like they're gonna work out the way you wanted them to, and then all of the sudden things take a drastic turn in the exact opposite direction?
Warning! Self-pity party approaching! Duck and Cover!!!
That sums up my last few days. Probably for two reasons: first is that I'm grotesquely unattractive, and the second is that I think that about myself, and it projects itself whenever I'm around certain people. That combined with the way I sort of bottle up, and you can see why the dating situation lapses further and further away from "healthy."
I hate the distance that seems to keep growing between me and everyone except my roommates. I'm starting to get scared that I'm lapsing back into that "don't go out and do anything for months at a time" phase. I really don't want that.
Self-pity section ended, resume normal reading.
Matt and Cass are patching things up again, it looks like. This is a good thing. I keep expecting the huge ugly break-up, then the part where I'm supposed to not like one of them anymore, because the other is my friend. Thank you for not living up to that expectation, guys.
Jessica doesn't feel that her rock climbing experience warrants blogging about, so we'll never know about it, I suppose. Something about her stature and the location of the first foothold on the wall she was climbing made for a not-so-fun time, as we discussed this and other topics over Mexican delights at Casa Mexicana.
That's about it. I'll blog about the fun and interesting time of forming a flag football team at some point. If you wanna play, toss me an e-mail (hit "Respond" over <---- there). |

The word for "dog" in the Australian aboriginal language Mbabaran happens to be "dog."
I was gonna post about three days ago, until I got swamped for three consecutive days, and didn't really have a chance. Now I'm sitting calmly before my computer, and I've decided to compose some prose for you. Deep? Meaningful? Nah, you know me better than that.
All of my life's problems are petty, it seems. Dating, work, living paycheck-to-paycheck. Nothing deep happens to me, and thus I have pretty shallow posts.
That's probably good. If my life were deep, I'd turn melodramatic. Then I'd be a goth. And everyone knows that Goths == dumb. Therefore, I should count my blessings, eh?
Sometime tonight, after a radio meeting and conning a few folks into eating dinner with me, I'm headed home for the weekend. It will constitute the first time I've seen my parents since Christmas. Trust me, this is a lot of visits in a year. I'm also doing a favor for Pat in getting some of his beloved possessions from the house for his new squalid apartment. Ok, it's not that bad, but there's really nothing in it. Their TV broke, so they have a 9" set sitting on top of a rather large guitar speaker.
I hope Jamie's doing ok, or that he's not ready to rip my throat out. He hasn't responded to an e-mail I sent him a while back, and I figure he's mad at me for finding the new UAH hockey schedule and posting it. Disappointing, since he may have some information that I could really use in preparing for next season.
I'm tired now. Probably from not eating yet today. Hope I make it to Missouri.
Since I probably won't post tomorrow, and I really want to wish this one: Happy Chocolate Ice Cream Day, Sarah, Jessica, and assorted other females who are obsessed with chocolate. :) |

Warning!
At a grocery store in San Jose, they have new credit card/bank card readers at the checkout stands. If you don't know how to orient your card to swipe it through the reader, the checkout person will say, "Strip down, face toward me."
Editor's Note: Am I wrong, or is this just asking for trouble?
See, I told you...all gone.
I got to design our CD labels at Distance Learning. I have to say that they look very nice. I'll post a copy of the graphic if I get a chance today.
I still wanna see Geof all kinds of wanting to be like me. :)
I'm slowly grooming Ande to be a quarterback. He's decided we need to throw about 500 passes each every day. That puts us out in the yard for about an hour and a half. My arm starts to turn to jello, and my hands start to hurt from catching after about 45 minutes. That could mean that I need to correct some flaws in my technique on either side. Either way, when flag football season comes up, I'll be so ready to run some trick plays.
Now I gotta start devising a playbook.
Or a plan to get a date. How's THAT for a subject change? :)
Happy Repeat Day. |
